In the Department of Music, performance is essential in every program area. Students have a wide variety of opportunities to perform in ensembles and as soloists. The choral and instrumental areas have extensive ensemble offerings, including Concert Choir, University Singers, University Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble, Heritage Singers, and Winds of Triumph, in addition to several small ensembles.

The Department of Music offers four majors within the Bachelor of Music degree—Church Music and Worship, Music Education, Piano with emphasis in Pedagogy, and Performance—and one degree within the Bachelor of Arts degree—Music.

The Bachelor of Music degrees and the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music share a common core of music studies that include course and experiences in music theory, music history and literature, individual applied studies, ensembles, and conducting.

Music may also be selected as a minor which allows the student to gain a basic introduction in music and pursue more advanced study in one or more areas.

Students must audition before being accepted as a music major. Students may enroll in music courses prior to an audition with the understanding that they must contact the Music Office as soon as possible to schedule an audition. For detailed information regarding auditions, click here.
